A press release from the City of Fort Lauderdale on November 19th announced that Genia Duncan Ellis had been selected by the Florida League of Cities as the Citizen of the Year for the State of Florida. Genia was previously selected and honored by the City of Fort Lauderdale in April of this year as the Fort Lauderdale Citizen of the Year. In late summer, the City further, submitted her name to the League of Cities for this prestigious state honor. Genia was notified in early November that she was a finalist for this recognition, not knowing that her name had been submitted by her city. At a formal banquet in Orlando, Florida, on November 18th, it was announced that Genia had been selected as the honored recipient of this title representing Fort Lauderdale, Broward County and the State of Florida. We extend our congratulations to Genia and acknowledge how fortunate we are to have her representing our neighborhoods, city, county, and state. Of special interest, Genia is currently serving a second term as President of the Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Associations |
