BOARD MEETING MINUTES Monday September 25, 2006, 5:30 PM 8th Floor Conference Room – City Hall CALL TO ORDER: Meeting was called to order by President Genia Ellis at 5:30 PM. . ROLL CALL: Recording Secretary Bunney Brenneman recorded the roll of Officers and Directors with those present as: President Genia Ellis, 1st Vice President Reid Morgan, 2nd Vice President Elizabeth Hays Recording Secretary Bunney Brenneman, Corresponding Secretary David Marshall, District II Representative Jan Idelman (5:52), District III Representative Audley Ebanks, and Chairman of Committees Richard Mancuso. Excused were: Treasurer Ed Coyle Barranco, District I Representative Betty Shelley, and District IV Representative Bill Nielsen. A quorum was present. REVIEW & APPROVAL OF August 28, 2006 MEETING MINUTES: Minutes were approved as amended with “BY GENERAL CONSENSUS it was agreed that we have a discussion at a future meeting” under For The Good of the Community and on the web site. (Attachment A). TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Ed Barranco submitted his report as of August 31, 2006 with a combined total of balance of $7,725.36 together with a Budget Performance Sheet reflecting April1-August 31, 2006 which were accepted as presented. Members were advised that the pass-through disbursement for the Moore Appreciation Day would appear in next month’s statement. (Attachments B1,B2,B3) Update on Storage of Records-Recording Secretary Bunney Brenneman stated that she has 3 weeks vacation coming and will spend as much time as it takes using that time to look for the records. NEW BUSINESS: 1.October Meeting Presentation – Newsletters will be the subject of several presenters which now include Jan Meiser, Charlie Read, Andy Ziffer, Steve Kelley, and Betty Shelley. All associations are requested to please bring newsletters to the October General Meeting. 2. Upcoming Subjects for Presentation – For November: Possible ULDR Changes with land use attorney Courtney Crush and Greg Brewton to be invited to address the subject “How do we go about making a change?” Mentioned were Setbacks and Overlays. Every neighborhood is requested to bring a list of questions and concerns to the November meeting for future consideration. 3. December Council General Meeting- The December date will be unavailable because the Commission is changing their meeting from December 5 to December 12, 2006. We will discuss having a social event. 4.–November Meeting Suggestions- Covered under Item 2. . OLD BUSINESS: 1. Florida Neighborhood Conference – Committee: volunteers are still needed for the Council table during the Conference. Interested persons are urged to contact Chair Betty Shelley .2. Robert’s Rules Seminar/Workshop - Scheduled for Saturday October 21, 8:00 AM-Noon, 8th floor of City Hall, and presented by Patricia McDougle & Barbara Proctor, both Professional Registered Parliamentarians. Recording Secretary Bunney Brenneman agreed to check into a possible sponsor for the baked goods, and she determined that the possible sponsor will be out of town on that date (Attachment C). . 3. Timely Posting of Agenda, Minutes, Committee Reports and Announcements to the web – President Ellis re-stated that timely posting is needed by all for reminders and advance notice of events. COMMITTEE REPORTS – Chairman of Committees Richard Mancuso inquired as to which Committee Chairs will have reports. FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMUNITY: •Elizabeth Hays has been appointed to the Education Advisory Board which meets the 3rd Thursday. • President Ellis appointed Betty Shelley as Council liaison to the Education Advisory Board and Betty Hays as Council liaison to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board with the concurrence of the Council Board. Bunney Brenneman agreed to fill in for Betty Hays if she is unable to attend a meeting. • District II Representative Jan Idelman reported on the District III Carlton Moore Appreciation Brunch slated for September 30th from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at the Westin Hotel , and arrangements for a Collage made available to the Council by noted Artist Marc Gagnon for Commissioner Carlton Moore. Jan also offered to purchase an appropriate blank card for the presentation to Commissioner Moore at the brunch. BY GENERAL CONSENSUS it was decided that Artist Proof No. 1 would be donated by the Council to the African-American Research Library in honor of Commissioner Carlton Moore. The artist would then present Artist Proof No. 2 to Commissioner Carlton Moore. Artist Proof No. 3 would then go to the Birmingham, Alabama City Hall. ANNOUNCEMENTS: •Corresponding SecretaryDave Marshall announced that John Herbst is now aboard as the new Commission Auditor. •President Ellismentioned the DDA Downtown Transit Circulator Public Information Workshop, Oct.2, 2006, 7:00 PM at the Mizell Center flyer (Attachment D). •President Ellis stated she had received notice of the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society’s walking Holiday Candlelight Tours of the historic district of Fort Lauderdale by costumed guides on Nov. 28, Dec. 5, 12 and 19 at 5:30, 6:15, and 7:00 PM at $12 per person starting from the New River Inn/Museum of History (Attachment E).
