Schools/Park Report - February 2008

I participated in the Consortium of Education Advisory Boards for Broward County conference phone call this morning that focused on doing initial planning for another Best Practices Showcase.  The Fort Lauderdale EAB has participated in the previous three and had an outstanding display at last one, thanks to Leslie and her talents.  The next workshop is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, May 14th or Thursday, May 15th at Stranahan (first choice) or Dillard (second choice) from about 4-6pm.  Each city will be able to give a 5 minute explanation of one of their Best Practices and there will be space for a display.  The aim of the workshop is to educate EAB board members, City mayors/commissioners/city managers and interested members of civic associations and the general public.  Thus, I am asking all EAB members, staff liaisons Eccles and Carhart, Mayor Naugle, Commissioners Moore, Hutchinson, Teele and Rodstrom and City Manager Gretsas to pencil these events into their calendars.  Formal invitations will be forthcoming as plans are finalized for this event.  The City of Fort Lauderdale has been a leader in the County in these events and we want to continue to lead as we share our Best Practices and learn about other Cities Best Practices.  In this way, we can benefit the education of the students of the public schools in Fort Lauderdale as schools and cities work together to achieve this goal.
