NCIP Grant Committee Annual Update Print E-mail

Annually, the Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Associations may partner with other public or private entities to bring forward an application for matching grant funding utilizing points earned the preceding year through CVC projects of donated from its membership or other sources that may be identified.  All projects are to be for the greater good of the city, offer safety to areas in need or to enhance the public area utilized by our residents.

The first of those projects was the collaborative effort between the Navy League and Countil in providing the installation of the Lone Sailor Monument on the Riverwalk. This application was submitted during the 2006/2007 cycle, was awared and installed at a value of 15,000 points donated by the Council and its members coupled with additional work and funding from the Navy League.  All applications and constructions were requirement to meet the city criteria.  This application was reported and support at the Downtown Civic Association and to the Riverwalk Trust as this contrstruction is within the boundaries of that association.       August 2006

The second proposed project was for the permanent road closure of SW 11th to ensure added protection to the school children having to cross the street to attend classes on their campas.  The application was submitted during the 2007/2008 cycle for review and was accepted by the Commission for installation.  15,000 points were donated by the Council and its members coupled with in-kind service in the amount of $6,500 for landscape and routine mainenance of the closure by  Trinity Lutheran Church.  All applications and constructions are required to meet city criteria.  This application has been reported and supported by the Tarpon River Civic Association as this construction is within the boundaries of the association.       August  2007

The third proposed project is the installation of additional decorative street lights along the Riverwalk pathway to increase pedestrian safety and to act as a deterrent to an increase in crime.  As the downtown has expanded and with the increase in residential dwellings in the area, the Riverwalk has become a large pedestrian pathway.  Safety has become a major concern of the area and this grant will assist the city and police in adding lighting to the area.  The 35,000 points were donated by the Council, its members, and additional sources.  All applications and constructions are required to meet the city criteria.  This application has been reported and supported by Riverwalk Trust and Downtown Civic Associations as this construction is withing the coundaries of the association.    September 2008
