MINUTES OF THE PARK GOALS COMMITTEE
OF THE COUNCIL OF CIVIC ASSOCIATIONS
NOVEMBER 13, 2008
In Attendance:
Doug Stener, Progresso Village
Betty Hayes,
Abel Cornejo, Lake Ridge
Dennis Ulmer,
Marilyn Markus, Bermuda Riviera
Mark Boyd, Progresso Village
Committee will meet again in January, no meeting in December
We need to create report by February to present to the council
Motion to Approve Minutes- All in favor
We went over recommendations that were sent by email from Mark, Abel and Dennis(see below)
Markus asked about the 400 million bond and where the money was spent. Betty said still have some money in reserve.
Betty went over brochure produced by the City of Fort Lauderdale.
Betty recommended for a new bond to pay for new parks.
Doug asked about increasing user fees. Betty and Dennis said it might price out some of the lower income residents.
Doug went over some recommendations from the Master Plan.
“One acre of greenspace and parks per one neighborhood association”
We could refer to this in our report.
We extended this statement to”
“One acre of greenspace and parks per neighborhood association as a minimum. Does not have to be continuous”
Betty mentioned creating a 10-15 year project length. Dennis disagreed and said keep it within Commissioner’s term.
As for ranger assistance, it was agreed that we should encourage neighborhood associations, churches and/or schools to help maintain park safety.
For our next meeting, we will vote on our final recommendations.
Next Meeting will be January 27, 2009 at 6pm
