Sewer Report July, 2005 By The Sewer Queen Aka Elizabeth Hays Those of us living in Southwest Fort Lauderdale continue to “enjoy” the presence of the Waterworks project in our neighborhoods. As sewer work continues in Oak River and the southern parts of River Run, Riverland Road remains closed below 18th Street. It should have been reopened July 1 but date now flashing at us is July 15th. This past weekend, the “tide” was very high at 14th and Riverland road suggesting that the drainage at that intersection may be worse than before the Waterworks work was done at this intersection. The long hot summer continues in our part of the City. Over in the northeast/Victoria Park area, temperatures amongst the residents are rising in regards to the “new and better” lift stations and the detrimental impact they are having on that neighborhood. Now, we are not talking cheap lifting of fecal material (sewage) to a higher level, but five super sized $500,000 each pump stations. According to Brittany, the city response was “oops” but I am sure you all know who will pay for “oops”. I have heard nothing new on the situation in Lauderdale Manors phase II. My question is where are the green grass swales in phase I Lauderdale Manors? Again I ask if other neighborhoods are experiencing difficulties or are experiencing successes with their sewer, water main, force main projects, let me know and I will incorporate them into my next Council report. Finally, in April and May, I participated with Reed Markee from Riverside Park as citizen members of the Consultant Selection and Negotiation Committee for “Engineering Testing Laboratory Services” for the City. The selected company will do a variety of testing required by the Waterworks and other City construction projects. Cost negotiations with Nodarse are now complete and should be in front of Commission at either July or September meeting. 05junsewrep |
